Here are a taste of some of the best Golf Courses and Links all within a short distance of Strandhill.Strandhill Golf Club – www.strandhillgolfclub.com
Strandhill Golf Club is a resort that lies at the western base of Knocknarea 1,000 foot high limestone mass to the southern side of Sligo Bay. An enormous stone structure, 60 yards in Diameter and 30 feet high, sits at the top of the mountain. “Maeve's Cairn” or Maeves Hill as it is called is said to be the grave of the mythical Queen Maeve, whose father, the high king of Ireland at the time, presented her with the province of Connacht as a gift.
Strandhill Golf Club was formed in 1931 and members played on a 9 hole layout for over 40 years until Eddie Hackett extended the course to 18 holes in 1973. Some of the green designs allow for severe undulations which add greatly to the challenge of playing Strandhill.
The total yardage of the course takes up just every square yard of the beautiful sand hills between Strandhill Beach and Culleenamore Strand to the south. There are four par
threes and one par five on the course – the 530 yard, left doglegged 5th hole, name “the Dunes” which is played to a sunken green. The difficult, 441 yard right doglegged 18th called “Bustards Lodge” is not stroke 1 index for nothing. The course has a mixture of the very tricky to the more relaxing all of which is in the backdrop of the some of the most magnificent scenery any golfer can imagine.
The course has full dining and bar facilities and the newly developed clubhouse offers all modern amenities for the enthusiastic golfer. The clubhouse also has a well stocked professional shop in which one can hire clubs, golf carts and other golfing paraphernalia. If you would like a lesson prior to your round of golf this can also be arranged through on-site Golf Pro and can be arranged with the Pro Shop.

A favoured venue of Padraig Harrington during his amateur years, Co Sligo saw Padraig compete and win the West of Ireland Championship on numerous occasions. This course comprises two courses the first is the Championship course and the second is taxing nine - hole course known as the 'Bomore Course'.
The Championship course was developed in 1894 and the championship course as it stands was designed by the great Harry Colt in1927 this is one of Ireland's great championship links. The club has hosted most of Ireland's major championships in its long and venerable history. Three large beaches beneath the cliffs keep the Atlantic Ocean at bay. Benbulben Mountain competes with the ocean for scenic splendor on the land side.
The wind from the sea is a constant factor but the 3rd, 5th, 10th and 14th holes have very satisfying downhill drives to compensate.

Ballymote Nine Hole Golf Course 20 KM from Strandhill
Ballymote Golf Course is a little gem hidden between the Curlew Mountains and Ballymote Town. This is a parkland course that is particularly challenging because of the hilly terrain and the multitude of trees. There are spectacular views of local scenery- the first green looks towards the Caves of Keash. A nine-hole course, it has wide fairways and beautifully manicured greens.
Two of the holes were designed by Eddie Hacket and the famous Mel Flanagan from Longford. The renowned Island Green Hole (No 17) at the multi-million pound Druid’s Glen Golf Course is matched by Ballymote’s own Island Green hole. This signature hole (No 7) is set into Ballinacarrow Lake, and as the name suggests, is surrounded by water.
